Semper Augustus favourite at Newbury this afternoon.

The Ed Walker-trained Semper Augustus runs today in the 1 mile 2 furlong Apprentice Handicap at Newbury, due off at 5.05pm. There are 11 runners and he has a lovely draw in 2 with the excellent Saffie Osborne on board again, fresh from leading the jockeys table at last nights Racing League. This step up in trip will be a fascinating experiment as his full-brother, Flanders Flame, improved markedly for going up to 10f+. His last race at York was a farce given the very slow pace but it did suggest a step up in trip could be well within compass for him. Hopefully they go a true gallop up front here and, if so, he ought to go very close
