Sister Marguerite (IRE)
Sister Marguerite (IRE)
2018 Bay mare by Dylan Thomas (IRE) ex Long Walk Home (IRE) (Presenting (GB))
Owner KVT VII
Sister Marguerite ran a very encouraging close 2nd on her sole start in an Irish Point-To-Point at Ballindennisk. She was settled towards the back of the field and, having been seventh turning for home, she made ground up quickly to challenge two fences out. She showed a willing attitude to hit the front up the run in only to be collared late on by a much more experienced rival. Her handler would not have his pointers totally tuned up for their first run and has recently sold Desert Heather, Bal Kauto and Cloudy Wednesday that have all gone on and won plenty of races.
Sister Marguerite boasts an eyecatching pedigree being out of a Presenting mare who has already produced two black type runners. It is a hardy family with two of her siblings being multiple winners winning 5 and 6 races respectively. Her sire Dylan Thomas is doing very well as a National Hunt sire with the wonderful Ahoy Senor flying his flag at the top level whilst his paternal half-brother/stablemate, Douglas Talking, is an especially promising young chaser who beat our ill-fated Gamaret at Sandown earlier in the year.
There is now an extensive mares programme in both the UK and Ireland including three mares only races at the Cheltenham Festival. Prizemoney is often excellent in Mares only races for the grade of race so if you have a good one, you can be well rewarded. ‘Black Type’ (first three in a Graded or Listed race) would add residual value onto a mare like this too so, if she is smart, we would campaign her with this in mind.
Venetia Williams
Venetia has recorded the most wins by a lady trainer in the history of National Hunt Racing.
A model of consistency since becoming a trainer, Venetia has maintained her position as one of the top ten trainers in the country, frequently reaching the top five. Recent stars like L'Homme Presser's and Chambard, currently compete at the highest level alongside evergreens such as Yala Enki and Houblon Des Obeaux.
