Persian Moon (Ire)
Persian Moon (Ire)
2016 bay colt by Makfi (GB) ex Lune Rose (GB) (High Chaparral (Ire))
Purchased for 40,000gns at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale (Book 1) 2017
This very good looking three-year-old son of Makfi is in training with Mark Johnston in Middleham. Mark is a welcome addition to the KVT roster having previously trained stars Gateman and Drumfire. He was purchased at the top sale in Tattersalls Book 1 and is eligible for the valuable £25k bonus should he win a Class 4 maiden or better, which he did at the third time of asking. His full sister is Listed winner in France and his dams sire, High Chaparral, has recently sired the winner of the Melbourne Cup. In training with a record breaker we have high hopes for this colt, having won on his third start in impressive fashion and following this up with his second win under a penalty at York. He stepped up in grade for his next run in the Acomb Stakes (Group 3) at York when he finished a decent third. He then recorded his third win at Epsom in September.
He started his three-year-old season off in the Group 3 Classic Trial at Sandown where he ran a decent third and followed this up with another third in the Listed Newmarket Stakes on 2000 Guineas Day. He was then fourth in the Listed Cocked Hat Stakes over 1m3f at Goodwood and was fourth again (or first if you take out the Aiden O’Brien runners!) in a handicap over 1m 4f at Royal Ascot. On his latest start he was second in the Listed Glasgow Stakes – hopefully we can find a winning opportunity soon.
Luke Lillingston commented “We went hunting for a gem amongst all the jewels that form Europe’s richest sale, Tattersalls Book 1, and came up with a full brother to a two-year-old and Listed winner for £40,000. He is eligible to win a £25,000 bonus if Mark Johnston can win a two-year-old maiden with him – I like the odds and what better man for the job!”
Mark Johnston is Britain’s leading racehorse trainer, having over take Richard Hannon snr's record in 2018, a year in which Mark beat some of his own records by training 222 winners and earning over £4.5m in domestic prizemoney. He sure knows how to win.
