Equiano ex Electric Mistress

We bought this powerful son of the King’s Stand winner, Equiano, at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale. This is the same sale that we bought Equality (also by Equiano) and Dragon Leader in recent years.

Equiano has been a leading sire of sprinters over the years with the likes of The Tin Man, Strath Burn, Equilateral and our own Equality flying the flag for him at the top level. The latter three have all been trained by Charlie Hills who will of course train this colt. The Hills’ family have tasted enormous success with horses from this sireline over the years and we can dream that this colt can be another star of the future!

The dam, Electric Mistress, won a Thirsk maiden herself and is out of a stakes-placed half-sister to the very very fast Champion 3yo Filly of Europe, Glass Slippers. For a bit of Kennet Valley interest, Glass Slippers is out of a half-sister to our Bishop’s Leap who won 3 of his first 4 races before being sold to Hong Kong for a tidy sum.

Dragon Leader won the Goffs UK Sales Race this year and we can dream that this colt can do the same in 2023. The race is worth half a million in 2024 so that would be something to shout about!

Equiano needs no explanation to KV regulars; Dandy Man is currently Europe’s leading sire of sprint winners; I bought this colt’s second dam at Doncaster and she earned black type at Newmarket as a two year old; the next dam was the fastest filly of her generation in Europe , perhaps the world. However more than anything this horse created, separately, a very strong and positive first impression on both Sam and I. Further inspections strengthened our resolve to try to buy him. Luckily we were successful. I much look forward to his racing career.”
