Flashcard a very close third in the Group 3 Sovereign Stakes

Stepping up from handicap company is never easy but our ever dependable Flashcard made it look as if he has always belonged in this class with a very good effort in the Sovereign Stakes. Under Rob Hornby he looked like the winner with a furlong or so to go, but just failed by half length to the previous Listed winner and the Group 1 winner Accidental Agent in second to come third. The Andrew Balding-trained gelding is clearly up to this level and remains a very exciting three-year-old.

Making her racecourse debut was Kashmirella who ran in the opener under Charlie Bishop. Trained by Eve Johnson Houghton she was held up towards the rear in this 7 furlong Fillies Maiden, but made some good progress in the last couple of furlongs to ultimately finish 7th of the 13 runners, beaten 6 lengths. This was a promising start which she should build on and will be a more finished article next season.
