Carolus Magnus a good third on debut at Doncaster
The Andrew Balding-trained Carolus Magnus made a fine start to his career when third on Doncaster on Sunday afternoon. This 3yo son of Holy Roman Emperor had a set back last year and by just getting to the track shows how hardy he is. Under David Probert he was not given a hard time and allowed the time to settle and come into the race. Under a hands and heels ride he picked up in the last furlong or so and only was beaten just over a length. A mile should easily be within his compass and he will hopefully shed his maiden tag pretty soon. A great first day at school and his patient owners should be rewarded with a nice horse.
