Trainers

KVT carefully selects it's trainers from among the best in the country. We seek to match yearlings purchased both with the trainer’s particular skills and also with an eye to his/her gallops and other facilities. We would typically invite input from the trainer at the sales to our short list of prospects.

For the 2018 season we have added Mark Johnston to our roster of trainers' who include Andrew Balding, Ralph Beckett, Charlie Hills and William Knight.

We work closely with our trainers and make a number of visits to their yards during the year. We monitor each horse's progress on a regular basis and report to our partners in a transparent manner.

We hold a partners' open morning with each trainer in the Spring followed by lunch in a local pub, as well as several other visits to the yards throughout the season.

Andrew Balding

Andrew took over the license at Kingsclere, from father Ian, in January 2003 and has never looked back. He has enjoyed Group 1 success in England, Dubai, Hong Kong, Canada and Australia.
Andrew trains our 3-time winner Contango, the the unraced White Turf, a half-brother to recent Balding trained Group 1 winner Blond Me and a Fast Company yearling colt.

Charlie Hills

On our roster since 2014 Charlie took over the license at Faringdon Place, a high-spec built yard, from legendary father Barry, in August 2011. Charlie’s early solo career has started with a bang with winners of a Classic, a Grade 1 in Canada and a Breeders' Cup. Charlie's Muhaarar was a quadruple Group 1 Sprint winner in 2015 before retiring to stud duties. Also in 2015 Charlie won the Stewards' Cup at Glorious Goodwood with our up and coming sprinter Magical Memory, who has since taken The Duke Of York Stakes (Group 2) and The Hackwood Stakes (Group 3) and The Abernant Stakes (Group 3).

Alongside Magical Memory, Charlie also trains for KVT two-year-old Lifeboat and an unnamed Exceed And Excel yearling colt.

Clive Cox

After a stellar couple of years, franked with a famous Group 1 double at Royal Ascot in 2016, Clive now sits amongst the top trainers in the country. This season Clive will probably break all his records and has the highly talented sprinter Harry Angel under his careful eye. New to the KVT 2017 roster Clive trains Cuban Heel, a two-year-old son of Havana Gold, from his base in Lambourn.

Mark Johnston

We are very excited to be welcoming back Mark Johnston to our trainer roster in 2018. Mark is well known to KVT, having previously trained star horses Gateman and Drumfire. In 2018 Mark will train a lovely Makfi colt.

Ralph Beckett

St Leger and Dual Oaks winning trainer Ralph joined the KVT training ranks in 2013 with both KVT-owned Killing Time and Maxwell being three-times winners.
Ralph has trained around 850 UK winners and 2016 was a record year for him with 101 winners, the first of many centuries!

Ralph trains a lovely two-year-old daughter of Cape Cross for KVT named Cross My Mind.

William Knight

William joins the KVT roster for the 2017 season. We are very excited to welcome him to the KVT team and he fits the profile well. Like our existing trainers William is young, on his way up and has the use of the excellent private gallops at Angmering Park.
William is well know to the KVT team and he currently trains for Peter Winkworth and has trained for Hot To Trot. Most importantly he is a good friend to us all and we know we will get great service from him.
William trains Royal Wave, a two-year-old daughter of Royal Applause who is a half-sister his very useful Solar Flair.
