Cuban Heel

The Clive Cox-trained 2yo son of Havana Gold was a good second in a competitive and valuable conditions race at Leicester on Tuesday. Under champion jockey Cuban Heel broke well but was a bit tapped for toe around the half way mark. However, when he concentrates, he gets down to his work well and ran on strongly towards the line to be beaten a length. He will likely now be put away for the winter and he should be a fun horse next season.

Gorham's Cave blew his race when bolting to the start under Andrea Atzeni. On just his second career start, this Roger Varian-trained gelding was too keen in the early stages of the race, on soft ground, and that coupled with his earlier exertions made for his run fizzling out too early. He is worth another chance.

General Marius, also trained by Roger Varian, was disappointing at Brighton. They went off a pretty hard gallop in this 7f contest and he was always been niggles along by jockey Harry Bentley to stay up with the pace. Harry thought they might all come back to him, but he was too far detached and never got into it. He might have one more run before heading to the horses in training sale.
